Exploring the 7 Sisters of India in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Guwahati, Assam
    20 minutes (12km) from Guwahati Airport

    In the morning, visit Kamakhya Temple, a famous Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess of power. Then, head to the Assam State Museum to explore the history and culture of Assam. In the afternoon, visit Srimanta Sankardeva Kalashetra, a cultural institution where you can learn about the art, culture, and heritage of Assam. In the evening, enjoy a river cruise on the Brahmaputra River, where you can witness the breathtaking sunset over the river.

  2. Day 2: Shillong, Meghalaya
    3 hours (100km) from Guwahati

    In the morning, visit the Elephant Falls, a three-tiered waterfall located in the outskirts of Shillong. Then, head to the Shillong Peak, the highest point in Meghalaya, to witness the panoramic view of the city. In the afternoon, visit the Don Bosco Museum, a seven-story building showcasing the indigenous cultures of Northeast India. In the evening, stroll around Police Bazaar, a popular shopping destination in Shillong.

  3. Day 3: Kaziranga National Park, Assam
    5 hours (240km) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National Park, known for its one-horned rhinoceros and other rare species. Enjoy an early morning jeep safari to witness the wildlife and birdlife of the park. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Panbari Reserve Forest to spot some more exotic birds and animals. In the evening, enjoy a cultural program of Bihu dance, a popular folk dance form of Assam.

  4. Day 4: Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh
    12 hours (350km) from Kaziranga National Park

    In the morning, visit the Tawang Monastery, a 400-year-old monastery and the largest in India. Witness the morning prayer ceremony and explore the monastery complex. Then, head to the Bum La Pass, located at an altitude of 15,200 feet and the Indo-China border. In the afternoon, visit the serene Pankang Teng Tso Lake, also known as PT Tso or Pangong Tso of Arunachal Pradesh. In the evening, stroll around the local market to buy souvenirs.

If you have more time, you can consider visiting other places such as Dawki, Mawlynnong, and Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, Tawang War Memorial, and Taktsang Gompa in Arunachal Pradesh. You can also plan a side trip to Majuli Island, the largest river island in the world, in Assam. To maximize your fun, try the local cuisine, which includes bamboo shoot pickle, smoked meat, and pitha, a sweet dish made of rice flour. You can also take a helicopter ride to Tawang to witness the breathtaking aerial view of the mountains and valleys.
