6-Day Itinerary: From Delhi to Cherrapunji, Gangtok, and Darjeeling

  1. Day 1: Cherrapunji
    75 km (2 hours) from Shillong Airport

    Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra, is a picturesque town that receives the highest amount of rainfall in India. Start your day with a visit to the Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in the country, followed by the Mawsmai Cave, a natural limestone cave with unique rock formations. In the afternoon, head to the Seven Sisters Falls and Eco-park for a scenic picnic before ending the day with a visit to the Living Root Bridges.

  2. Day 2: Gangtok
    575 km (12 hours) from Cherrapunji

    Take a scenic drive to Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim. In the morning, visit the Enchey Monastery and Hanuman Tok, a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Spend the afternoon exploring the city center at MG Marg, a pedestrian-only street with shops and restaurants. End the day with a visit to the Rumtek Monastery, a Buddhist monastery with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

  3. Day 3: Gangtok

    Start your day with a visit to the Tsomgo Lake, a glacial lake at an altitude of over 12,000 feet. Next, head to the Nathula Pass, a mountain pass on the Indo-China border. Keep in mind that Nathula Pass is subject to weather and operational conditions, so it may not be open year-round. Alternatively, you can visit the Ganesh Tok viewpoint and Tashi Viewpoint for scenic views of the city and surrounding hills.

  4. Day 4: Darjeeling
    100 km (3.5 hours) from Gangtok

    Take a scenic drive to Darjeeling, a historic hill station known for its tea plantations and stunning views of the Himalayas. In the morning, visit the Tiger Hill viewpoint for stunning sunrise views of Mount Everest and Mount Kanchenjunga. Next, visit the Ghoom Monastery and the Batasia Loop, a spiral railway track with a war memorial. Spend the afternoon exploring the city center and the nearby tea plantations before ending the day with a visit to the Peace Pagoda.

  5. Day 5: Darjeeling

    Start your day with a visit to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, home to various endangered species including the red panda and snow leopard. In the afternoon, visit the Happy Valley Tea Estate for a guided tour and tea tasting. End the day with a visit to the Darjeeling Ropeway, a cable car ride with panoramic views of the valley.

  6. Day 6: Darjeeling to Bagdogra Airport
    70 km (2.5 hours) from Darjeeling

    In the morning, take a scenic drive back to Bagdogra Airport for your departure flight. Along the way, you can stop at the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary for a nature walk or visit the Kali Mandir temple for a spiritual experience.

While in Cherrapunji, consider visiting the Double Decker Living Root Bridge for a unique trekking experience. In Gangtok, you can take a day trip to the Lachung Valley or Yumthang Valley for stunning views of the snow-capped mountains and alpine forests.
