Exploring Saurashtra in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Rajkot
    40 minutes (24.5 km) from Rajkot Airport

    In the morning, visit the Watson Museum which showcases a variety of exhibits, including artifacts from Mohenjo-daro and Ivory carvings. Afternoon, head to the Kaba Gandhi No Delo, which is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. In the evening, visit the Rotary Dolls Museum, which has an impressive collection of dolls and toys from across the world.

  2. Day 2: Gir National Park
    2 hours 30 minutes (150 km) from Rajkot

    In the morning, go for a safari in Gir National Park, the only place in the world where you can see Asiatic lions in the wild. Afternoon, visit the Crocodile Breeding Centre, which is home to over 100 crocodiles. In the evening, take a stroll along the beautiful Kamleshwar Dam.

  3. Day 3: Somnath
    2 hours 30 minutes (160 km) from Gir National Park

    In the morning, visit the historic Somnath Temple, which is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India and has been destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries. Afternoon, head to the Bhalka Tirth, which is where Lord Krishna was believed to have been accidentally shot by an arrow. In the evening, take a stroll along the beautiful Somnath Beach.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the coastal town of Dwarka, which is home to the famous Dwarkadhish Temple. Another interesting side trip is to the Junagadh city, which has numerous historical sites including Uparkot Fort and Mahabat Maqbara. To maximize your fun, try some of the local delicacies, including the famous Gujarati Thali, Khaman Dhokla and Khandvi. Finally, don't miss the opportunity to shop for traditional handicrafts and textiles in the local markets.
