Cueva de Saturno is a natural swimming hole surrounded by rock formations and lush greenery. Visitors can swim in the clear, turquoise waters or even do some cliff jumping. This is a great spot for some Instagram-worthy shots.
Varadero Street Market is a great place to get some souvenirs and gifts for family and friends back home. The market has a wide assortment of handmade goods like pottery, jewelry, and textiles. There are also food vendors selling local delicacies.
Ambrosio Cave is a fascinating complex of limestone caves filled with stalagmites and stalactites. There are guided tours available to explore this natural wonder. Visitors can learn about the history and geology of the caves, or just take some amazing photos.
Varadero is a relatively small town, and the best way to get around is by foot, bicycle, or taxi. Taxis are readily available and charge reasonable rates. A taxi from the airport to the beach costs around 25 CUC and takes around 15 minutes. Bicycles can be rented for around 5-10 CUC per day, and are a great way to explore the town on a budget.
If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to nearby Matanzas or Havana. If you have less time, eliminate a location or two from this itinerary. Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and bug spray, as well as some cash for purchases from street vendors.
Juan Gualberto Gomez International Airport (VRA) is the main airport serving Varadero. It is located about 25 kilometers from the town center and is served by several airlines, including Air Canada and WestJet. Taxi service is available at the airport for approximately 25 CUC.
