Explore Varkala and Sivagiri in 3 Days

  1. Day 1: Varkala Beach
    5 minutes (0.3 miles) from Varkala Sivagiri Railway Station

    Visit the Sivagiri Mutt, a spiritual and cultural center in Varkala. The Mutt is the final resting place of Sri Narayana Guru, a social reformer and philosopher who preached the message of "One Caste, One Religion, One God." Take a guided tour of the Mutt and learn about the life and teachings of Sri Narayana Guru. In the afternoon, visit the Anjengo Fort, a historic fort that dates back to the 17th century, or go on a backwater cruise on the Kappil Lake. In the evening, you can enjoy a Kathakali dance performance or attend a yoga class.

  3. Day 3: Ponnumthuruthu Island
    10 minutes (3 miles) from Sivagiri Mutt

    Take a boat ride to Ponnumthuruthu Island, also known as "Golden Island." Visit the Shiva-Parvathi temple, which is over 100 years old, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. You can also go for a swim or try some local seafood at one of the island's restaurants. In the afternoon, visit the Kappil Beach, a secluded beach with golden sands and clear waters. Go for a walk or simply relax on the beach. In the evening, head back to Varkala and enjoy some rooftop dining with a view.
