4-Day McLeod Ganj Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Dalai Lama Temple Complex
    5 minutes (1.1 km) from McLeod Ganj bus stand

    Start your day with a visit to the Dalai Lama Temple Complex, also known as Tsuglagkhang. This spiritual and cultural center of the Tibetans features the Namgyal Monastery, where you can witness the monks chanting and meditating. You can also visit the museum to learn about the history of Tibet and the life of the Dalai Lama. In the afternoon, enjoy the scenic views of the Dhauladhar Range from the complex's gardens. In the evening, attend the daily prayer ceremony at the monastery.

  2. Day 2: Bhagsu Waterfall and Bhagsunath Temple
    20 minutes (3.5 km) from Dalai Lama Temple Complex

    Embark on a scenic hike to Bhagsu Waterfall, which is at its best during the monsoon season. The 30-foot waterfall is a popular picnic spot for tourists and locals alike. After the hike, visit the ancient Bhagsunath Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple has a natural spring where you can take a dip and rejuvenate yourself. In the evening, explore the local markets and try some Tibetan delicacies.

  3. Day 3: Triund Trek
    1 hour 45 minutes (7 km) from Bhagsu Waterfall

    Challenge yourself with a trek to Triund, which offers stunning views of the Dhauladhar Range and the Kangra Valley. The 9 km trek takes around 4-5 hours and is moderately difficult. You can either camp overnight or return to McLeod Ganj the same day. In the evening, relax and enjoy a warm cup of tea at one of the many cafes in town.

  4. Day 4: Norbulingka Institute and Kangra Fort
    30 minutes (10 km) from McLeod Ganj bus stand

    Visit the Norbulingka Institute, a center for the preservation of Tibetan culture, art, and literature. You can take a guided tour of the institute to learn about traditional Tibetan crafts like thangka painting, wood carving, and sculpture. In the afternoon, head to the historic Kangra Fort, which is located at the confluence of the Banganga and Manjhi rivers. The fort dates back to the 4th century BCE and has witnessed many battles over the years. In the evening, catch a local cultural show at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.

If you have more time, you can also visit the Tsechokling Gompa, which is a serene Buddhist monastery located in a forested area. You can also take a day trip to Palampur, which is known for its tea gardens and scenic beauty. To maximize your fun, try some adventure activities like paragliding, rock climbing, or rappelling.
