4-Day Itinerary for Palitana and Girnar Jain Temple in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Palitana Shatrunjaya Hill
    78 km (2h 20m) from Bhavnagar Airport

    In the morning, visit Palitana Shatrunjaya Hill, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Jains. You can reach the top of the hill by climbing around 3,500 steps, or by taking a Doli (palanquin) ride. The journey to the top is worth it for the breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and the 900 temples on top. In the afternoon, visit the Jain Museum to learn more about the Jain religion and its history. In the evening, explore the local market and try some traditional Gujarati food.

  2. Day 2: Gir National Park
    70 km (2h 20m) from Palitana Shatrunjaya Hill

    In the morning, head to Gir National Park, the only place in the world where you can see Asiatic lions in the wild. Take a jeep safari and spot lions, leopards, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. In the afternoon, visit the Kamleshwar Dam for a peaceful picnic by the lake. In the evening, enjoy a cultural program at the Sasan Gir Interpretation Zone.

  3. Day 3: Somnath Temple
    45 km (1h) from Gir National Park

    In the morning, visit the Somnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (shrines) of Shiva, and learn about its rich history and architecture. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Triveni Sangam, the confluence of three rivers, and take a boat ride to see the Sangam and the nearby hills. In the evening, enjoy a light and sound show at the Somnath Temple, depicting the temple's history and legends.

  4. Day 4: Girnar Jain Temple
    55 km (1h 40m) from Somnath Temple

    In the morning, visit the Girnar Jain Temple, one of the most important Jain pilgrimage sites, located on the Girnar mountain. The temple complex has several temples and shrines dedicated to different Jain Tirthankaras. In the afternoon, visit the Junagadh Museum to learn about the history and culture of Junagadh and its rulers. In the evening, explore the Uparkot Fort, an ancient fortress with several gates, temples, and water reservoirs.

If you have an extra day, consider visiting Dwarka, the city of Lord Krishna, and its famous Dwarkadish Temple. You can also visit Diu, a former Portuguese colony, for its beaches and historic forts.
