Two-Day Itinerary for Banaras in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Assi Ghat
    15 minutes (3.2 km) from Varanasi Junction railway station

    In the morning, visit Assi Ghat, a popular ghat in Banaras and a great place to enjoy the sunrise. Take a boat ride on the Ganges River and witness the morning rituals of the locals. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Tulsi Ghat and take a dip in the holy river. Tulsi Ghat is also a great spot for photography with stunning views of the river. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, which is a grand ceremony where priests perform rituals with fire and flowers to honour the river Ganges.

  2. Day 2: Sarnath
    30 minutes (10.4 km) from Assi Ghat

    In the morning, visit Sarnath, a Buddhist pilgrimage site where Gautama Buddha gave his first sermon. Explore the ruins of ancient monasteries and stupas and admire the beautiful Ashoka Pillar. In the afternoon, head back to Banaras and visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the most important Hindu temples in India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. In the evening, explore the busy streets of Banaras and try some local street food like chaat and lassi.

If you have more time in Banaras, you can consider visiting the Ramnagar Fort, which is a beautiful fort located on the other side of the river Ganges. You can also take a day trip to Chunar Fort, which is an ancient fort located about 40 km from Banaras. To maximize your fun, try taking a heritage walk in the old city, which is a great way to explore the narrow lanes and learn about the history and culture of Banaras.
