3-Day Motorcycle Riding Itinerary for Hampi in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Hampi Bazaar
    10 minutes (3.4 km) from Hampi Bus Station

    In the morning, explore the colorful and bustling Hampi Bazaar, where you can find a wide variety of souvenirs, handicrafts, and traditional clothes. Stop for a refreshing cup of chai and some local snacks at one of the street food stalls. In the afternoon, ride to the nearby Tungabhadra River for a relaxing riverside picnic. In the evening, head to the Virupaksha Temple, one of the most important and revered temples in Hampi, and witness the evening aarti ceremony.

  2. Day 2: Anegundi Village
    30 minutes (12.5 km) from Hampi Bazaar

    Start your day with a visit to the Anjaneya Hill, a scenic hilltop temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. From there, ride to the charming village of Anegundi, known for its ancient temples, fortifications, and picturesque landscapes. Visit the Pampa Sarovar, a sacred pond surrounded by lush greenery, and the Kishkindha Heritage Resort, a quaint eco-friendly resort with stunning views of the Tungabhadra River. In the evening, head back to Hampi for a leisurely stroll around the Hemakuta Hill and its numerous ancient temples and shrines.

  3. Day 3: Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary
    1 hour 20 minutes (30 km) from Hampi Bazaar

    On your last day, ride to the Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary, a unique and fascinating wildlife reserve home to hundreds of Indian Sloth Bears. Take a guided jeep safari and spot these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, along with other wildlife such as leopards, hyenas, and wild boars. In the afternoon, head back to Hampi and relax at one of the scenic cafes by the river. In the evening, visit the Achyutaraya Temple, a beautiful and intricately carved temple complex that offers breathtaking views of the sunset over Hampi.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Vithala Temple Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its stunning stone chariot and musical pillars. You could also take a scenic coracle ride on the Tungabhadra River or go on a bicycle tour of the ancient ruins of Hampi. For a side trip, head to the nearby Pattadakal, a group of gorgeous 7th and 8th century CE Hindu and Jain temples that are also UNESCO World Heritage Sites. To maximize your fun, make sure to wear comfortable riding gear, carry plenty of water and snacks, and avoid riding during midday when it's the hottest.
