A 5-Day Foodie Itinerary for Goa in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit the Mapusa Market

    Begin your foodie adventure with a trip to the Mapusa Market, where you'll find a bustling array of local ingredients.   2. Day 2: Visit the Latin Quarter of Panaji

    Spend the day on a tour of the spice plantations in Ponda. Learn about the various spices grown in the region and taste some of the local specialties. For breakfast, try the local musk melon or pineapple and for lunch, indulge in a traditional Goan fish curry served with steamed rice and fried fish. Enjoy a traditional Goan dessert, bebinca, in the evening.

  4. Day 4: Visit the Beach Shacks of Calangute
    20 minutes (8.5 miles) from Ponda Spice Plantations

    Spend the day at Calangute Beach, and enjoy the local beach shacks. For breakfast, enjoy some local breakfast items such as Goan bread (Pao) with chicken cafreal or xacuti chicken. For lunch, head to Souza Lobo beach shack for some fresh seafood. In the evening, try some local drink feni, made from the cashew fruit or coconut.

  5. Day 5: Visit the Night Markets of Anjuna
    10 minutes (3.7 miles) from Calangute Beach

    End your trip with an evening visit to the night markets of Anjuna. Try some local street food such as Goan fish cutlets or chicken samosas. For dinner, try some pork sorpotel or chicken xacuti. End the evening with some live music and a cocktail at one of the beach shacks.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider taking a day trip to Old Goa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its colonial-era architecture and ancient churches. You can also visit the Dudhsagar Waterfalls or take a river cruise on the Mandovi River. To maximize your food experience, consider taking a cooking class to learn how to make local specialties such as fish curry and bebinca. Other suggestions include visiting a local bakery for fresh bread or trying some of the local sweets such as dodol and bebinca.
