3-Day Itinerary for Meghalaya in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Shillong
    30 minutes (10 miles) from Umroi Airport

    In the morning, visit the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures, which showcases the region's rich ethnic diversity. In the afternoon, explore the manicured gardens and cascading waterfalls of Ward's Lake. In the evening, head to the Police Bazaar for some local shopping and street food.

  2. Day 2: Cherrapunji
    2 hours (35 miles) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit the Nohkalikai Falls, which is the tallest plunge waterfall in India. In the afternoon, explore the Mawsmai Cave, which is filled with stalagmites and stalactites. In the evening, take a nature walk through the Seven Sisters Falls, which is a group of seven waterfalls that cascade down the hills.

  3. Day 3: Dawki
    3 hours (80 miles) from Cherrapunji

    In the morning, visit the Umngot River, which is known for its crystal-clear waters and is a popular spot for boating and fishing. In the afternoon, head to the India-Bangladesh border at Tamabil-Dawki and take a boat ride on the Umngot River. In the evening, trek to the nearby Shnongpdeng village and experience the local way of life.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the living root bridges of Nongriat or the Balpakram National Park. For a side trip, head to Mawlynnong, which is known as the cleanest village in Asia. To maximize your fun, try some of the local delicacies like Jadoh or Tungrymbai. Make sure to carry light and comfortable clothes with sturdy shoes, and plan your trip according to the monsoon season.
