3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Kamakhya in July 2024

  1. Day 1: Kamakhya Temple
    10 minutes (3.5 km) from Guwahati

    The Kamakhya Temple is one of the most popular and ancient Hindu temples, located on the Nilachal Hill. The temple is a symbol of the tantric sect of Hinduism and is dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya. Start your day early to avoid the crowds and take part in the morning aarti. Afterward, explore the temple complex, which includes several smaller temples, each with its own fascinating history. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Umananda Temple, located on Peacock Island, which can be accessed by ferry. In the evening, take a stroll around the temple complex and enjoy the beautiful sunset view.

  2. Day 2: Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 20 minutes (50 km) from Kamakhya Temple

    Embark on an adventurous wildlife safari at the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, home to the famous one-horned rhinoceros. The sanctuary also has a rich variety of flora and fauna, including several bird species. After the safari, take a break and relax at the nearby Brahmaputra River Beach.     In the morning, visit the Basistha Ashram, located on the outskirts of Guwahati. The ashram is a peaceful and serene place surrounded by lush greenery and streams. It is said that the ashram was once visited by Lord Shiva. Afterward, head to Hajo, a pilgrimage site for three different religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. In the afternoon, visit the Kedareswara Temple, a popular Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the evening, return to Kamakhya Temple for the final aarti of your trip.
