Two-Day Itinerary for Pondicherry on a Shoestring Budget in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Promenade Beach
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Pondicherry Railway Station

    Morning: Take a sunrise walk along the beach and enjoy the cool breeze. You can spot the historic statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the beachfront.
    Afternoon: Visit the nearby War Memorial and the French War Memorial which are important historical landmarks.
    Evening: Go for boat rides along the promenade and explore the street food scene. You can also visit the nearby Sri Aurobindo Ashram which is open until 6 pm.

  2. Day 2: The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
    20 minutes (3.5 km) from Promenade Beach

    Morning: Take a walk around the historic Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, one of the most beautiful churches in Pondicherry.
    Afternoon: Visit the nearby Botanical Garden which is open from 10 am to 5 pm. You can explore various plant species and relax in the serene surroundings.
    Evening: Head to the local market and indulge in street food and souvenir shopping. You can also visit the Bharathi Park which is open until 7 pm.

If you're interested in history, you can take a side trip to the nearby Arikamedu archaeological site which is about 7 km from Pondicherry. You can also visit the Pondicherry Museum which showcases the rich cultural heritage of the region.
