2-Day Itinerary: Hyderabad to Gokarna in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Hyderabad to Hampi
    6 hours 30 minutes (353 km) from Hyderabad

    Morning: Start your journey early in the morning and stop by the Kurnool Fort, situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra river, which was built during the reign of the Vijayanagara Kingdom. After exploring the fort, drive down to Belum Caves, the second-largest cave system in India, known for its stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations.

    Afternoon: Grab lunch on your way to Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. Visit the Virupaksha Temple, known for its intricate carvings, and the iconic Stone Chariot at the Vittala Temple complex.

    Evening: Head to the Tungabhadra River for a coracle ride during sunset. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the river and indulge in some local snacks before settling in for the night at one of the many guesthouses or homestays in Hampi.

  2. Day 2: Hampi to Gokarna
    4 hours 30 minutes (190 km) from Hampi

    Morning: Visit the Hampi Bazaar and explore the various shops and eateries. Take a walk through the ruins of the Royal Palace and see the Lotus Mahal, an iconic building with Islamic and Hindu architectural features. Then, head to the Zenana Enclosure, which was once a private area for the royal women.

    Afternoon: Drive down to Gokarna, a beautiful temple town situated on the coast of the Arabian Sea. Visit the famous Mahabaleshwara Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Enjoy a relaxing swim at Gokarna Beach before relishing some delicious seafood for lunch.

    Evening: Take a sunset walk along Kudle Beach and Om Beach, both of which offer stunning views of the sunset. Enjoy a bonfire with some music and food before retiring for the night at one of the many beachside shacks.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, explore the nearby town of Badami, known for its ancient rock-cut temples and stunning architecture. You can also take a detour to the Jog Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in India. To make the most out of your trip, rent a bike or scooter to explore the local areas. Don't forget to try some local delicacies such as the famous Hyderabadi biryani and the mouth-watering seafood in Gokarna.
