2-Day Itinerary for Mumbai, Beach, Resort, Caves

  1. Day 1: Visit Gateway of India
    30 minutes (9.2 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

    In the morning, visit the iconic Gateway of India. This historic monument was built in 1924 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai. Take a boat ride to Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to explore the ancient rock-cut temples. In the afternoon, head to Juhu Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Mumbai, to relax and enjoy the scenic views. In the evening, visit the Marine Drive and enjoy the sunset from there.

  2. Day 2: Explore Kanheri Caves and Stay in a Beach Resort
    1 hour 30 minutes (34.5 km) from Marine Drive

    Start the day with a visit to Kanheri Caves, a group of ancient rock-cut monuments located within the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The caves date back to the 1st century BC and were used as Buddhist monasteries. In the afternoon, head to a beach resort to relax and unwind. Spend the evening enjoying the various activities at the resort.

Other local attractions worth considering include visiting the Haji Ali Dargah, a beautiful mosque located on a small island in the Arabian Sea and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, a museum showcasing various art and artifacts. A side trip to Lonavala and Khandala, hill stations located approximately 2 hours from Mumbai, is also recommended. To maximize your fun, consider taking a street food tour of Mumbai and also indulging in some local shopping at places like Crawford Market and Colaba Causeway.
