To get around in Japan, use the public transportation system to save time and money. Purchase a JR Pass if you plan on traveling between different cities. Alternatively, Tokyo has an extensive metro and bus system that cover most of the city's major sites. A suica card is a convenient way to pay for the metro and bus fares.

Useful Tips

If you have more time, consider visiting the historical city of Hiroshima, famous for the A-bomb Dome and Miyajima Shrine. For an authentic cultural experience, see a sumo wrestling match, one of Japan's most popular sports. If you have less time, consider skipping Mount Fuji or Odaiba and adding more days to Tokyo or Kyoto. Also, be mindful of the Japanese customs, such as taking off shoes before entering a home or temple, and speaking in a moderate tone in public.

Narita International Airport (NRT) is located about 60km east of Tokyo, and is a hub for major international airlines. Haneda Airport (HND), located closer to Tokyo, primarily serves domestic and local flights. Easy access to both airports is available through buses, trains, and taxis.
