5-Day Itinerary for Delhi, Dalhousie, Dharamshala in June 2024

  1. Day 1: Delhi
    Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to Red Fort: 35 minutes (11.5 km)

    Start your day by visiting the iconic Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, built-in 1639. This historical landmark is an excellent example of Mughal architecture and has played a significant role in India's history. Afterward, you can head over to the Qutub Minar to see the tallest brick minaret in the world. In the evening, visit the Lotus Temple, a Bahá'í House of Worship that looks like a blooming lotus flower.

  2. Day 2: Delhi to Dalhousie
    Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to Pathankot Railway Station: 10 hours (479 km)

    In the morning, take a flight from Delhi to Pathankot. From Pathankot, take a taxi to Dalhousie, a beautiful hill station with colonial architecture and mesmerizing views of the Himalayas. After checking in at your hotel, visit Panchpula, a picturesque spot with beautiful waterfalls and natural pools. In the evening, take a stroll around the Mall Road and try some local street food.

  3. Day 3: Dalhousie
    Panchpula to Khajjiar: 30 minutes (13 km)

    Start your day with a visit to the Khajjiar Lake, also known as the Mini Switzerland of India. This picturesque lake is surrounded by lush green forests and snow-capped mountains and is a perfect spot for nature lovers. Afterward, head over to the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the upper regions of Dalhousie. In the evening, explore the Tibetan Market and buy some souvenirs.

  4. Day 4: Dalhousie to Dharamshala
    Dalhousie to Dharamshala: 4 hours (120 km)

    Take a taxi from Dalhousie to Dharamshala, a beautiful hill station with a unique blend of Tibetan and Indian culture. Start your day by visiting the Bhagsu Waterfall, a natural wonder surrounded by lush greenery. Then head over to the Namgyal Monastery, the largest Tibetan temple outside of Tibet. In the evening, explore the local markets and try some Tibetan cuisine.

  5. Day 5: Dharamshala
    St. John's Church to Dharamsala International Cricket Stadium: 20 minutes (7.2 km)

    Start your day by visiting the St. John's Church in the Wilderness, a beautiful church built-in 1852. Then head over to the Dharamsala International Cricket Stadium, one of the most picturesque cricket stadiums in the world. In the evening, visit the Dalai Lama Temple Complex, a spiritual center for Tibetan Buddhism.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day in Dharamshala, you can take a side trip to McLeod Ganj, a nearby town known for its Tibetan culture and stunning views of the Himalayas. You can also try paragliding in Bir-Billing, located a few hours away from Dharamshala.

To maximize your fun, try to plan your activities in advance and book tickets online to avoid waiting in long queues. Also, try to pack light as you'll be traveling to different places.
