5-Day Itinerary for Chennai in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Marina Beach
    25 minutes (10.7 km) from Chennai International Airport

    Start your day by watching the sunrise over the Bay of Bengal at Marina Beach. Take a stroll along the promenade and enjoy the fresh sea breeze. After breakfast, visit Fort St. George, the first English fortress in India. In the evening, head to the Kapaleeswarar Temple and witness the Aarti ceremony.

  2. Day 2: Mahabalipuram
    1 hour 30 minutes (58.4 km) from Marina Beach

    Take a day trip to Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its ancient rock-cut temples and sculptures. Visit the Shore Temple, Pancha Rathas, and the Krishna Mandapam. After lunch, head to the beach and enjoy some water activities. Return to Chennai in the evening.

  3. Day 3: Government Museum
    20 minutes (6.8 km) from Marina Beach

Return to Chennai in the evening.

  5. Day 5: Arignar Anna Zoological Park
    1 hour 10 minutes (35 km) from DakshinaChitra

    End your trip by visiting the Arignar Anna Zoological Park, one of the largest zoos in India. See over 500 species of animals and birds in their natural habitats. After lunch, head to the Crocodile Bank and learn about the conservation efforts of these reptiles. Return to Chennai in the evening.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the following attractions: Guindy National Park, Valluvar Kottam, San Thome Basilica, and VGP Universal Kingdom. You can also take a day trip to Kanchipuram, known for its silk sarees and ancient temples. To maximize your fun, try the local street food, such as idli, dosa, and vada. Don't forget to bargain when shopping in the local markets. Finally, be aware of the hot and humid weather in June and carry sunscreen and water at all times.
