Adventure Itinerary: Vrindhavan, Mathura, Kedarnath, and Rishikesh in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Vrindhavan
    20 minutes (12.2 km) from Mathura

    Morning: Head to the Banke Bihari Temple, one of the most famous temples in Vrindhavan, and lose yourself in the mesmerizing bhajans and kirtans. Afternoon: Visit the ISKCON temple and take part in the aarti ceremony. Evening: Take a stroll in the beautiful Prem Mandir, enjoy the light and sound show, and grab local snacks from the bustling market nearby.

  2. Day 2: Mathura
    3 hours (150 km) from Vrindhavan

    Morning: Visit the Krishna Janmasthan Temple, which is said to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. Afternoon: Explore the Mathura Museum, which houses rare artifacts and sculptures from the Gupta and Kushan periods. Evening: Take a boat ride on the Yamuna river and witness the beautiful sunset while listening to stories about Lord Krishna’s childhood.

  3. Day 3: Kedarnath
    10 hours (450 km) from Mathura

    Morning: Start early and head to the Kedarnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, situated at an altitude of 11,755 ft. Afternoon: Go on a trek to Vasuki Tal Lake, located at an altitude of 14,200 ft and surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Evening: End the day by camping under the stars and enjoying a bonfire.

  4. Day 4: Kedarnath

    Morning: Go on another trek to Kedartal, a pristine glacial lake located at an altitude of 16,116 ft and surrounded by majestic peaks. Afternoon: Visit the Gandhi Sarovar, a beautiful lake en route to Kedarnath. Evening: Relax and rejuvenate with a hot spring bath at Gauri Kund.

  5. Day 5: Rishikesh
    7 hours (210 km) from Kedarnath

    Morning: Visit the Trimbakeshwar Temple, one of the oldest temples in Rishikesh, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Afternoon: Go river rafting on the Ganges and experience the thrill of the rapids while taking in the beautiful scenery around you. Evening: Attend the Ganga Aarti ceremony at Parmarth Niketan, one of the most famous ashrams in Rishikesh.

  6. Day 6: Rishikesh

    Morning: Take a dip in the holy Ganges at the Triveni Ghat and witness the morning rituals being performed by the locals. Afternoon: Go bungee jumping or zip-lining at Jumpin Heights, one of the best adventure sports companies in Rishikesh. Evening: Visit the Beatles Ashram, also known as Chaurasi Kutia, and explore the graffiti art on the walls.

  7. Day 7: Rishikesh

    Morning: Take a hike to the Neer Garh Waterfall and enjoy the stunning views along the way. Afternoon: Visit the Neer Garh Waterfall and take a refreshing dip in the cool waters. Evening: Explore the local markets and enjoy some street food while taking in the vibrant atmosphere of Rishikesh.

Recommendations

If you're feeling adventurous, you can try bungee jumping or white water rafting at Jumpin Heights in Rishikesh. If you have time, you can also visit Auli, which is known for skiing and snowboarding during the winter months. You can also take a side trip to Haridwar, which is only an hour's drive from Rishikesh and is famous for its temples and the Ganga Aarti ceremony.
