4-Day Itinerary for Balaji Temple with 3 Members in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Balaji Temple
    10 minutes (4.5 miles) from Chennai International Airport

    In the morning, we will start our journey to the Balaji Temple, one of the most famous and significant temples in India. The temple is open from 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and we will start our visit in the morning to avoid the crowds. We will explore the temple complex and learn about the fascinating history and mythology behind the temple's construction. In the afternoon, we will enjoy some delicious South Indian cuisine at one of the many nearby restaurants. In the evening, we will attend the evening puja ceremony, a unique ritual that involves offerings to the deities and chanting of mantras.

  2. Day 2: Marina Beach
    30 minutes (8.3 miles) from Balaji Temple

    Today, we will visit Marina Beach, the second-longest beach in the world. We will start the morning by watching the sunrise over the Bay of Bengal and taking a long stroll along the beach. There are several street food vendors along the beach, so we will grab some breakfast on-the-go. In the afternoon, we will visit Fort St. George, a historic fort built during the British colonial period. We will learn about the fort's history and visit the onsite museum. In the evening, we will head back to Marina Beach to watch the sunset and enjoy some local snacks.

  3. Day 3: Mahabalipuram
    1 hour 30 minutes (37 miles) from Marina Beach

    Today, we will take a day trip to Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO World Heritage site and an ancient port city. In the morning, we will visit the Shore Temple, a beautiful temple complex that overlooks the Bay of Bengal. We will also visit the Five Rathas, a group of monolithic rock-cut temples. In the afternoon, we will explore the Mandapas, which are elaborately carved rock-cut cave temples. In the evening, we will return to Chennai and relax at our hotel.

  4. Day 4: Kapaleeswarar Temple
    30 minutes (7.8 miles) from Balaji Temple

    On our last day, we will visit the Kapaleeswarar Temple, a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. We will start the morning by attending the morning puja ceremony and exploring the temple complex. In the afternoon, we will visit the Government Museum, one of the oldest museums in India. We will learn about the history, art, and culture of Tamil Nadu. In the evening, we will enjoy some shopping at the nearby markets and grab some souvenirs to take back home.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can also visit the Guindy National Park, which is a beautiful wildlife reserve located in the heart of Chennai. You can also take a day trip to Kanchipuram, a historic temple town located about 70 km from Chennai. If you want to maximize your fun, you can try some of the local street foods, such as vada pav, dosa, and idli. You should also consider attending some of the local cultural events, such as the Chennai Music Festival or the Chennai Dance Festival.
