4-Day Itinerary for Hampi in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit Hampi Bazaar
    5 minutes (0.3 miles) from Hampi Bus Stand

    In the morning, explore the vibrant Hampi Bazaar and its colourful shops selling trinkets, jewellery and handicrafts. Grab a quick bite at a local eatery and then head to the nearby Virupaksha Temple. In the afternoon, explore the temple complex and marvel at its intricate carvings and sculptures. Take a short walk from the temple to reach the Tungabhadra River and go for a coracle ride. As the sun sets, climb the Hemakuta Hill for a panoramic view of Hampi.

  2. Day 2: Explore Royal Enclosure and Lotus Mahal
    20 minutes (4.1 miles) from Hampi Bazaar

    Start your day at the Royal Enclosure, a vast complex of palaces, administrative buildings and temples. Admire the grandeur of the Mahanavami Dibba and the intricate carvings on the Elephant Stables. In the afternoon, head to the Lotus Mahal, a beautiful pavilion with Islamic and Hindu architectural elements. Later, visit the nearby Hazara Rama Temple which is known for its exquisite friezes depicting the Ramayana. End your day at the Vithala Temple, famous for its legendary stone chariot and musical pillars.

  3. Day 3: Hampi's Waterfalls and Anegundi Village
    30 minutes (10.1 miles) from Vithala Temple

    Visit the nearby waterfalls in the morning. Jog Falls and Sathodi Falls are popular options and are located about two hours' drive from Hampi. After lunch, visit the charming Anegundi village. Explore its winding streets, ancient temples and the iconic Anjaneya Hill. If you have time, take a boat ride on the Sanapur Lake and watch the sunset over the hills.

  4. Day 4: Hampi's Archaeological Museum and Tungabhadra Dam
    25 minutes (13.6 miles) from Anegundi Village

    Spend your last day exploring Hampi's lesser-known treasures. Start with the Archaeological Museum which houses artefacts from the Vijayanagara Empire. Next, visit the nearby Pampa Sarovar and take a dip in its sacred waters. In the afternoon, head to the Tungabhadra Dam and take a tour of the power plant. End your day with a relaxing sunset boat ride on the Tungabhadra River.

To maximize your fun, try renting a bicycle or moped and explore Hampi at your own pace. You can also take a side trip to the nearby town of Hospet, which has a beautiful park and a bustling market.
