In the morning, leave Leh for Mulbekh, known for its 9 meters high Maitreya Buddha statue. After a short visit, head towards Kargil, a town in the heart of Suru Valley. Along the way, you'll pass through Namika La (3,700 m) and Fatu La (4,100 m), two of the highest mountain passes in the region, offering stunning views of the Zanskar range. In Kargil, visit the War Memorial and the local market to experience the culture and lifestyle of the inhabitants of Suru Valley.
Begin your day early and drive towards Padum, the heart of Zanskar valley. En-route, visit Rangdum Monastery, perched on a rocky hill, and experience the unique landscape of the region. Upon arrival in Padum, visit Zangla Fort, Karsha Monastery, and the local market. Take a walk around the village to see the traditional architecture and interact with the hospitable locals. If time permits, hike to Bardan Monastery, known for its ancient scriptures and wall paintings.
There are plenty of other attractions that you can consider visiting in Zanskar valley, such as Stongdey Monastery, Phuktal Monastery, and the Zanskar River. If you have more time, you can also plan a trek to the beautiful Markha Valley. To maximize your fun, make sure to carry enough warm clothes, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
