Transportation

While Malta may be small, there are still plenty of transportation options to consider. Taxis and rental cars are available but can be expensive. Alternatively, Malta has a great public transportation system that includes buses and ferries. The buses are cheap and cover all parts of the island but can be crowded, especially during peak times.

The ferry service is efficient and takes you to Gozo Island, which is a must-visit when in Malta. While it is advisable to book tickets in advance, you can also purchase them on the day of travel. The ferry departs from Cirkewwa in the north and arrives at Mgarr Harbour in Gozo. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes and costs €4.65 per person (one way).

Useful Tips

If you have more time, consider visiting the stunning island of Comino, located between Malta and Gozo. It's home to the famous Blue Lagoon, a popular spot for swimming and snorkelling. If you have less time, shorten the visit to Rabat or skip Mellieha Bay and St. Paul's Islands.

Airports

Malta International Airport (MLA) is the only airport on the island, located just 8 km southeast of Valletta. It's well-connected with numerous airlines offering direct flights to and from major cities in Europe and North Africa.
