Relaxing 7-Day Itinerary for North East India in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Guwahati
    10 minutes (2.5km) from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport

    In the morning, visit the ancient Kamakhya Temple, one of the most revered Shakti Peethas in India. In the afternoon, relax at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, home to the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros. In the evening, take a sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra River.

  2. Day 2: Shillong
    3 hours 30 minutes (100km) from Guwahati

    In the morning, drive to Shillong, the 'Scotland of the East', and visit the beautiful Umiam Lake. In the afternoon, take a peaceful walk to the Elephant Falls. In the evening, visit the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures, which displays the rich cultural diversity of North East India.

  3. Day 3: Cherrapunji
    2 hours 30 minutes (55km) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit the Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Then, trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge, a beautiful man-made marvel. In the afternoon, visit the Mawsmai Caves, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Cherrapunji. In the evening, relax at the beautiful Seven Sisters Falls.

  4. Day 4: Kaziranga National Park

In the afternoon, visit the nearby Orchid and Biodiversity Park. In the evening, enjoy a cultural performance by the local tribes.

  5. Day 5: Majuli Island
    3 hours 30 minutes (120km) from Kaziranga National Park

    In the morning, take a ferry ride to Majuli Island, the world's largest river island. Visit the Satras, the Neo-Vaishnavite monasteries which are unique to Assam. In the afternoon, explore the island on foot or bicycle. In the evening, take a sunset boat ride on the Brahmaputra River.

  6. Day 6: Tezpur
    6 hours (220km) from Majuli Island

    In the morning, drive to the beautiful town of Tezpur, also known as the 'City of Eternal Romance'. Visit the historic Agnigarh Hill and the Mahabhairav Temple. In the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll in the famous Kalia Bhomora Setu Bridge. In the evening, relax at the tranquil Chitralekha Udyan.

  7. Day 7: Jorhat
    2 hours 30 minutes (80km) from Tezpur

    In the morning, visit the picturesque Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar, a famous Vaishnavite temple. In the afternoon, visit the world-famous tea gardens of Assam and learn about the tea-making process. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Assamese dinner with traditional music and dance performances.
