6-Day Adventure Itinerary for Kedarnath Tungnath Badrinath in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath
    24 minutes (6.8 km) from Gaurikund

    Start your adventure with a trek to Kedarnath, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in India. The trek is about 16 km long and takes about 6-7 hours to complete. You will be surrounded by the scenic beauty of the Garhwal Himalayas throughout your journey. Upon reaching Kedarnath, visit the Kedarnath Temple, a magnificent ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

  2. Day 2: Tungnath
    3 hours 37 minutes (80.2 km) from Kedarnath

    Get ready for a challenging trek to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world. The trek is about 4 km long and takes about 3-4 hours to complete. You will be amazed by the panoramic views of the Himalayas from the temple. After visiting Tungnath, you can also trek a little further to reach Chandrashila peak, which offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains.

  3. Day 3: Badrinath
    7 hours 15 minutes (210 km) from Tungnath

    Today, head towards Badrinath, one of the four sacred shrines in Hinduism known as Char Dham Yatra. On the way, you will pass through Joshimath, a picturesque town nestled in the Himalayas. Once in Badrinath, visit the Badrinath Temple, a 15th-century temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Take a dip in the Tapt Kund, a natural hot water spring believed to have medicinal properties.

  4. Day 4: Mana Village
    20 minutes (3.4 km) from Badrinath

    Today, visit Mana Village, known as the last village of India, situated at the Indo-China border. Explore the ancient Vyas Gufa, a cave where Ved Vyas is believed to have written the epic Mahabharata. Visit the Ganesh Gufa, a cave where Lord Ganesha is said to have written the epic while Ved Vyas narrated it. You can also visit the Bhim Pul, a natural rock bridge over the Saraswati river.

  5. Day 5: Valley of Flowers
    2 hours 10 minutes (58.3 km) from Mana Village

    Today, explore the Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its alpine flowers. The valley is only accessible from June to September, making it a must-visit destination during your trip. The trek to the valley is about 4 km long and takes about 4-5 hours to complete. Once you reach the valley, you will be amazed to see a wide variety of flowers, including Himalayan bellflowers, Himalayan cobra lilies, and Himalayan blue poppies.

  6. Day 6: Hemkund Sahib
    1 hour 10 minutes (6.1 km) from Valley of Flowers

    End your adventure with a trek to Hemkund Sahib, a Sikh shrine situated at an altitude of 4,329 metres above sea level. The trek is about 6 km long and takes about 5-6 hours to complete. You will be surrounded by the stunning views of the Himalayas throughout your journey. Once you reach the shrine, take a dip in the Hemkund Lake, which is believed to have healing powers.

If you have some extra time, you can also consider visiting Auli, a popular skiing destination in the winter. You can also visit Rudranath, another sacred temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is located at a height of 2,286 metres above sea level. To make the most of your trip, try to start your trekking early in the morning to avoid the rush. Also, make sure to carry enough water and snacks with you during the trek.
