4-Day Itinerary for Dharamsala, McLeodganj, Trihund in June 2023

  1. Day 1: McLeodganj
    20 minutes (3.5 km) from Dharamsala
    Morning:

    Start your day by visiting the Namgyal Monastery, the largest Tibetan temple outside of Tibet. You can join the morning prayers and witness the monks chanting. Afterward, head to the Bhagsu Waterfall, where you can enjoy a scenic trek and a refreshing dip in the pool below the falls.

    Afternoon:

    For lunch, head to the nearby Shiva Cafe, which offers a breathtaking view of the valley. Afterward, visit the Dalai Lama Temple Complex, which houses a museum, library, and temple. You can also attend a talk by the Dalai Lama if he's in town.

    Evening:

    End your day at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, where you can watch a traditional Tibetan cultural performance.

  2. Day 2: Trihund Trek
    1 hour and 15 minutes (10 km) from McLeodganj
    Morning:

    Start early to begin your trek to Trihund. This is a moderate trek that takes around 5-6 hours round trip. Along the way, you'll see beautiful views of the Dhauladhar range.

    Afternoon:

    Once you reach Trihund, enjoy a picnic lunch and soak in the stunning views. You can also camp overnight if you'd like.

    Evening:

    Descend back to McLeodganj and enjoy a relaxing evening at a local cafe.

  3. Day 3: Dharamsala
    20 minutes (3.5 km) from McLeodganj
    Morning:

    Begin your day with a visit to the Kangra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Afterward, head to the Kangra Art Museum to learn about the rich cultural heritage of the region.

    Afternoon:

    For lunch, try some local Himachali cuisine at the Pong Dam Dhaba. Afterward, head to the Norbulingka Institute, a center for preserving Tibetan culture and art.

    Evening:

    End your day by visiting the HPCA Stadium, where you can catch a cricket match if there's one scheduled.

  4. Day 4: McLeodganj
    20 minutes (3.5 km) from Dharamsala

    Start your day with a visit to the Tushita Meditation Centre, which offers courses on meditation and Buddhism. Afterward, head to the Church of St. John in the Wilderness, a beautiful Gothic-style church.

    Afternoon:

    For lunch, try some local momos at the Lung Ta Japanese Restaurant. Afterward, head to the Tsuglagkhang Complex, which houses the official residence of the Dalai Lama and the Tibet Museum.

    Evening:

    End your day by shopping for souvenirs at the local markets.

Recommendations
