5-Day "Shoestring Budget" Itinerary for Rameshwaram Madurai, October 2023

  1. Day 1: Rameshwaram Beach
    10 minutes (1.3 miles) from Rameshwaram Bus Stand

    Watch the sunrise while taking a walk on the beach. Visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples, and take a dip in the 22 holy wells inside the temple complex.   2. Day 2: Dhanushkodi
    30 minutes (18 miles) from Rameshwaram Beach

    Take a shared jeep to Dhanushkodi, a ghost town destroyed during the 1964 cyclone. Visit the Dhanushkodi Beach where the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean meet. Take a dip in the ocean and relax on the beach. Visit the ruins of the old town and the railway station. Return to Rameshwaram for the night.

  3. Day 3: Meenakshi Amman Temple
    3 hours (110 miles) from Rameshwaram Bus Stand

    Take an early morning bus to Madurai. Visit the Meenakshi Amman Temple, a historic Hindu temple known for its intricate carvings and gopurams.
