Four Days in Hampi: A Journey Through the Ancient City

  1. Day 1: Exploring the Sacred Center
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Hampi bus stand

    In the morning, visit the Virupaksha Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the oldest functioning temples of India, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Afternoon, explore the magnificent Vittala Temple, known for its musical pillars and stone chariot, followed by a visit to the Kings’ Palace, a magnificent structure with intricate carvings. In the evening, take a walk around the Tungabhadra River, which is famous for its sunset view.

  2. Day 2: The North Hampi Trail
    15 minutes (4 km) from Hampi bus stand

    Morning, begin your day with a visit to the Hemakuta Hill temples, a collection of ancient temples and shrines, situated on top of a hill. Later, head to the Badavi Linga, a 3-metre-tall monolithic Shiva linga, followed by the underground Sasivekalu Ganesha temple. In the evening, watch the sunset at the Anjaneya Hill, known for its Hanuman temple and panoramic views of Hampi.

  3. Day 3: The Royal Trail
    20 minutes (5 km) from Hampi bus stand

    In the morning, visit the Lotus Mahal, a beautiful palace with Islamic and Hindu architectural features and the Elephant Stables, an impressive structure with 11 domes. Afternoon, explore the Zenana Enclosure, a walled enclosure that served as a royal palace for the Vijayanagara kings’ queens. In the evening, visit the Mahanavami Dibba, a grand platform from where the kings viewed the annual Dasara celebrations.

  4. Day 4: The South Hampi Trail
    25 minutes (7 km) from Hampi bus stand

    Morning, visit the Achyutaraya Temple, known for its carvings and the nearby statue of Ugra Narasimha, the half-man, and half-lion incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Later, visit the Hazara Rama Temple, which is famous for its gorgeous frescoes and carvings. In the evening, hike up the Malyavanta Hill to watch the beautiful sunset amidst the stunning rock formations.
