Exploring Coorg by Train, Nature Travel, and Riding in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Madikeri

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the famous Raja's Seat, a beautiful garden with stunning views of the valley below. Afternoon: Head to the Abbey Falls, one of the most picturesque waterfalls in the region. Take a leisurely stroll around the coffee plantations and spice estates in the area. Evening: Visit the Madikeri Fort, which dates back to the 17th century and houses a museum that showcases the history of Coorg.

  2. Day 2: Nisargadhama
    1 hour 10 minutes (34.8 miles) from Madikeri

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to Dubare Elephant Camp where you can watch the elephants being bathed and trained by their mahouts. Afternoon: Head to Nisargadhama, a beautiful island formed by the Kaveri River. Here, you can enjoy a walk through the lush bamboo groves, and spot deer, rabbits, and peacocks. Evening: Visit the Namdroling Monastery, the largest Tibetan settlement in South India, and witness the beautiful prayer rituals.

  3. Day 3: Mandalpatti
    1 hour 30 minutes (43.5 miles) from Nisargadhama

    Morning: Start your day with a beautiful scenic drive towards Mandalpatti. It is a beautiful hilltop that offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. Afternoon: Visit the Chiklihole Reservoir, a popular picnic spot, and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Evening: End your day with a visit to the Omkareshwara Temple, a beautiful temple with Islamic and Gothic styles of architecture.

Recommendations

If you have more time, visit the Iruppu Falls, located in the Brahmagiri Range. You can also take a trek to the Tadiandamol Peak, the highest peak in Coorg. If you want to explore further, take a side trip to the Nagarhole National Park, known for its wildlife and beautiful scenery. To maximize your fun, try some of the local Coorg cuisine, such as Pandi Curry, Bamboo Shoot Curry, and Akki Roti. Lastly, do not forget to indulge in some famous Coorg coffee!
