5-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for North Sikkim in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Gangtok
    From Bagdogra airport to Gangtok: 4 hours (72.5 km)

    In the morning, visit the famous Rumtek Monastery, followed by a visit to the Institute of Tibetology and the Orchid Sanctuary in the afternoon. In the evening, stroll around the MG Marg, the main street of Gangtok.

  2. Day 2: Lachen
    From Gangtok to Lachen: 6-7 hours (108 km)

    Start early in the morning and drive to Lachen. Along the way, visit the Seven Sisters Waterfall and Singhik viewpoint. In the afternoon, relax in Lachen and visit the Lachen Monastery. End the day with a cozy evening in the village.

  3. Day 3: Gurudongmar Lake
    From Lachen to Gurudongmar Lake: 3-4 hours (67.5 km)

    Spend the morning at Gurudongmar Lake, a holy lake that's one of the highest in the world. Afterward, head back to Lachen for lunch and then continue on to Lachung, a scenic village on the way back to Gangtok. In the evening, explore Lachung and visit the Lachung Monastery.

  4. Day 4: Yumthang Valley
    From Lachung to Yumthang Valley: 1 hour (25 km)

    Early in the morning, drive to the Yumthang Valley, also known as the Valley of Flowers. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the valley, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and hot springs. In the afternoon, head back to Gangtok and explore the town.

  5. Day 5: Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir
    From Gangtok to Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir: 2 hours (40 km)

    Begin the day with a visit to Tsomgo Lake, a glacial lake surrounded by mountains. Afterward, drive to Baba Mandir, a holy shrine dedicated to a soldier who died in the Indo-China war. Return to Gangtok in the evening and enjoy a final night in the town.

Other attractions in North Sikkim that you may want to consider visiting include the Phodong and Tashiding Monasteries, the Kabi Longstok and Phensang Monasteries, and the Nathula Pass. You may also want to take a trip to the nearby state of Darjeeling to visit the famous tea plantations and enjoy a cup of tea.
