7-Day Adventure Itinerary in Ladakh - July 2023

  1. Day 1: Acclimatize in Leh
    8 minutes (2.3 km) from Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport

    Leh is located at an altitude of 3,500m, and it's essential to acclimatize yourself to avoid altitude sickness. Spend the morning visiting Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace. In the afternoon, explore the bustling Leh Bazaar, and enjoy the local Ladakhi delicacies. In the evening, watch the sunset at Tsemo Fort.

  2. Day 2: Explore Nubra Valley
    5 hours (120 km) from Leh

    Drive through the world's highest motorable road, Khardung La, and reach Nubra Valley. In the morning, visit Diskit Monastery, which houses a 32m tall statue of Maitreya Buddha. In the afternoon, head towards the white sand dunes of Hunder. Enjoy a camel ride and witness the sunset over the dunes.

  3. Day 3: Drive to Pangong Tso Lake
    6 hours (155 km) from Nubra Valley

    Drive through the rugged terrain of Ladakh, cross the Chang La Pass, and reach Pangong Tso Lake. Spend the day admiring the mesmerizing beauty of the lake. Take a walk around the lake, and if you are brave enough, take a dip in the icy cold water. Witness the stunning sunset over the lake.

  4. Day 4: Visit Tso Moriri Lake
    8 hours (220 km) from Pangong Tso Lake

    Drive through the picturesque landscapes of Ladakh and reach Tso Moriri Lake. Spend the day enjoying the serene beauty of the lake. If lucky, spot some rare migratory birds and wildlife. In the evening, watch the sunset over the lake.

  5. Day 5: Trek to Markha Valley
    7 hours (90 km) from Tso Moriri Lake

    Drive to Chilling village and cross the Zanskar river on a cable bridge. The trek starts from Skiu village, and it takes around 6-7 hours to reach Markha Valley. The trek offers a stunning view of the Himalayan range and leads you through small hamlets, gorges, and streams. Overnight stay in a homestay.

  6. Day 6: Visit Hemis National Park
    2 hours (45 km) from Markha Valley

    Visit Hemis National Park, which is an excellent habitat for the endangered snow leopard. The park offers opportunities for trekking and wildlife spotting. In the afternoon, visit Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. Attend the famous Hemis Festival if your travel dates coincide.

  7. Day 7: River Rafting and Departure
    1 hour (30 km) from Leh

    Experience the thrill of river rafting in the Indus River. The rafting stretch is from Phey to Nimo, which is around 14 km and takes around 2 hours. In the afternoon, explore the monasteries of Shey and Thiksey. Depart from Leh with unforgettable memories of Ladakh.

Make sure to carry warm clothes, sunscreen, and sunglasses. You can also do a day trip to Alchi Monastery, Lamayuru Monastery, and Zanskar Valley.
