The Michelin Guide has significantly expanded its global reach in recent years, particularly in North America. While many travelers assume all major food hubs have stars, Michelin only evaluates specific geographic regions that have established partnerships with the guide.

Correction for Common Misconceptions
- Australia: Australia currently has no Michelin Star restaurant guide. While Michelin launched "Michelin Keys" for Australian hotels in late 2024, there are no starred restaurants in Sydney or Melbourne as of early 2025.
- Las Vegas: The Las Vegas guide was suspended in 2009. While certain restaurants (like Joël Robuchon) frequently cite their historical stars, they are not currently officially rated until the Southwest regional guide debuts in 2026.
- Seattle & Kansas City: These cities are currently not covered by the Michelin Guide.
Practical Tips for Food Travelers
- Book in Advance: Starred restaurants in major hubs like Tokyo or NYC often require reservations 1–3 months out.
- Look for the Bib Gourmand: This award highlights "exceptionally good food at a moderate price," often providing better value for travelers than high-end Starred venues.
- Check Global Updates: Michelin announces new cities and updates month-by-month on their official website (guide.michelin.com) and mobile app.
