Ideal duration to travel Maharastra

Plan 7–10 days to see several of Maharashtra’s main highlights. Allow 10–14 days if you want to travel at a relaxed pace or visit more regions.

Suggested itineraries

  • 3–4 days: Focus on Mumbai, or combine Mumbai with a nearby getaway such as Lonavala.
  • 7–10 days: Spend time in Mumbai and Pune, then visit the Ajanta and Ellora caves near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad).
  • 10–14 days: Add destinations such as Nashik, the Konkan coast, hill stations, or wildlife parks.

Planning tips

Maharashtra is a large state, and journeys between regions can take several hours. Choose a few areas rather than trying to cover the whole state in one trip. Add extra time during the monsoon, when weather can affect road and rail journeys.
