Start your adventure in Wayanad at Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. In the morning, you can go for a guided trek to the Banasura peak, which is about 6 km from the dam. The trek offers a picturesque view of the lush green landscape. In the afternoon, you can explore the surrounding area on foot or rent a bicycle to ride around. You can also enjoy a boat ride on the dam's tranquil waters in the evening.
On your second day, head to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek to the peak is a 14 km round trip and is a moderately difficult trek, so it's advisable to start early in the morning. In the morning, trek up the mountain through the dense forest that offers a stunning view of the mountain ranges. In the afternoon, you can go to the Soochipara Falls, which is a short 10 km drive from the base of the Chembra peak. The falls have a three-tiered waterfall, and you can take a dip in the freshwater pool at the base of the falls.
If you have time, you should also visit Edakkal Caves or Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. Both places offer a unique experience and are worth the visit. You can also plan a side trip to the nearby towns of Kalpetta or Sulthan Bathery, which are known for their spice markets and local handicrafts. To maximize your fun, make sure you carry enough water, snacks, and comfortable shoes for the treks. Lastly, don't forget to try out the local cuisine, especially the authentic Kerala-style biryani and seafood served in the local restaurants.
