3-Day Nature Itinerary in Darjeeling in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Tiger Hill Sunrise
    30 minutes (10.6 km) from Darjeeling town

    In the morning, head to Tiger Hill to witness an unforgettable sunrise over the Eastern Himalayas. The view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and other peaks from the observatory is breathtaking. After sunrise, visit Ghoom Monastery, the oldest in the area, to learn about the history of Buddhism in Darjeeling. In the afternoon, explore the Batasia Loop, a unique railway track that offers panoramic views of Darjeeling. Finally, end your day at the Happy Valley Tea Estate, where you can learn about the tea-making process and enjoy a cup of fresh Darjeeling tea.

  2. Day 2: Singalila National Park
    2 hours 20 minutes (60.2 km) from Darjeeling town

    Start your day early and drive to Singalila National Park, which is home to some of the rarest animals and birds in India, including the red panda and the Himalayan black bear. Enjoy a guided trek through the beautiful forest and enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas. After lunch, visit the charming village of Manebhanjang, which is renowned for its traditional handicrafts. Finally, visit the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary to see more of the unique flora and fauna that Darjeeling has to offer.

  3. Day 3: Mirik Lake and Pashupati Market
    1 hour 30 minutes (49.3 km) from Darjeeling town

    On your last day, visit Mirik Lake, a picturesque lake surrounded by lush green forests and mountains. Take a relaxing boat ride on the lake and enjoy the serene surroundings. In the afternoon, visit the Pashupati Market, located in a nearby Nepali town, to shop for unique souvenirs and traditional handicrafts. Finally, end your day with a visit to the Mahakal Temple, one of the most revered temples in Darjeeling.

In addition to the above itinerary, you can also consider visiting the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, and the Japanese Peace Pagoda. If you have additional time, you can also take a day trip to Kalimpong to visit the Durpin Monastery and the Cactus Nursery. To maximize your fun, consider trying some of the local cuisine, such as momos, thukpa, and yak cheese. Don't forget to bring comfortable walking shoes and warm clothing, as the weather can be unpredictable in the mountains.
