Land at Bagdogra airport or arrive at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and meet your pre-booked cab to Gangtok — the drive takes ~4–5 hours with scenic views. This is the travel-start point for Sikkim trips.
Check into your hotel in Gangtok and have a relaxed lunch on MG Marg; Taste of Tibet (popular momo & thukpa) or The Coffee House for lighter fares. Both are open roughly 9:00am–10:00pm.
Walk MG Marg (closed to vehicles) for shops, cafés, local handicrafts and sunset light; great to get a first feel of Gangtok. Most shops open 10:00am–9:00pm.
Visit Do Drul Chorten stupa and the Namgyal Institute to learn about Tibetan culture and see rare manuscripts; both open 9:00am–4:00pm (Do Drul Chorten donation-based).
Drive to Tashi View Point for panoramic Himalayan views (sunrise/sunset best) and Hanuman Tok for a quieter viewpoint; Tashi View Point early opening ~5:30am, daytime access all day.
Visit Tsomgo Lake (Changu Lake), about 40 km from Gangtok; typically accessible 8:00am–3:00pm. Scenic glacial lake—carry warm clothes. Entry & vehicle permits required.
Nathula (Indo-China border) requires restricted permits and is often open specific days (usually Thu–Sun historically) and can close due to weather — confirm permits 24–48 hrs prior; typical visit 9:00am–2:00pm. If closed, use the afternoon for additional photo stops en route back.
Drive back to Gangtok; have dinner at the hotel or a recommended restaurant like The Square. Expect to reach Gangtok by evening depending on road conditions.
Drive north to Lachen (~6–7 hours depending on stops). The route gains altitude with panoramic views, waterfalls and mountain villages; expect police/permit checkpoints for North Sikkim permit (carry ID).
Depart very early (~3:00am) from Lachen for Gurudongmar to reach before midday when weather is clearer; high-altitude (17,800 ft), expect cold and limited services. Check current road conditions — in Oct usually open but can close with snow.
Short stay at Gurudongmar Lake for photos and views; stay brief due to altitude. Typical visiting window is early morning to early afternoon; carry oxygen if advised.
Visit Yumthang Valley (the ‘Valley of Flowers’), typically accessible 7:00am–4:00pm — enjoy rhododendron forests, river views and shepherd settlements. Permit required; vehicles may be allowed only up to set points.
If weather and permits permit, continue to Zero Point (higher altitude, extra vehicle req. and charges). This is colder and can be closed due to snow; check with local guide. Usually returns by early afternoon.
Begin the long drive back to Gangtok (~6–7 hours). The road is scenic but long — expect arrival late evening. Alternative: overnight in Gangtok earlier if tired.
Drive to Pelling; route passes through Temi Tea Garden/Legship region depending on the chosen road. The journey crosses forests and mountain passes with photo stops en route.
Visit Singshore Bridge (one of Asia’s highest suspension bridges) and Rimbi/ Rabong waterfalls for sunset photographs. Bridge area accessible until dusk.
Rise early for a sunrise view of the Kanchenjunga range from the Skywalk / Pemayangtse viewpoint (best visibility before 8:30am). Weather-dependent; cloud cover may obscure peaks.
Visit Khecheopalri Lake (sacred wish-fulfilling lake; usually open 8:00am–5:00pm) and Rabdentse ruins for panoramic views and history. Good half-day outing before departure.
Begin drive back to Bagdogra airport / NJP Station (~5–6 hours). Aim to reach according to your onward flight/train timings. Keep buffer for mountain traffic.
