Exploring Wayanad in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 20 minutes (24.7 miles) from Calicut International Airport

    Start your day early and head to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. A trek to the top is a must-do for adventure lovers. The trek up to the heart-shaped lake takes around three to four hours. The view from the top is breathtaking and worth the effort. Don't forget to carry enough water and snacks for the trek. After the trek, head to the nearby Soochipara Waterfalls for a refreshing dip. Try the local Kerala cuisine for lunch at one of the nearby restaurants. In the evening, visit the Edakkal Caves, a pre-historic site with ancient petroglyphs.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 30 minutes (35.6 miles) from Chembra Peak

    Start your day by heading to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India. The dam is surrounded by lush green hills and offers boating and trekking facilities. After spending some time at the dam, head to the nearby Meenmutty Waterfalls. The waterfall is a three-tiered cascade and is one of the best waterfalls in Wayanad. You can reach the falls by trekking through the forest. Have lunch at one of the local restaurants nearby. In the evening, visit the Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by forests and hills. You can enjoy boating here and also buy some souvenirs from the nearby shops.

Other attractions in Wayanad worth considering are the Thirunelli Temple, Kuruva Island, and Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. A side trip to the nearby hill stations of Ooty and Coorg can also be planned. To maximize your fun, try to indulge in some of the adventure sports like zip-lining, rock climbing, and river rafting. Lastly, don't forget to try the local delicacies like appam, puttu, and fish curry. Have a great trip!
