Coorg: A 3-Day Itinerary for July 2023

  1. Day 1: Madikeri Fort
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Madikeri

    In the morning, visit the Madikeri Fort, which was built in the 17th century and has been witness to several battles. The fort stands on a hill and offers a panoramic view of the town. Afternoon, head to the Omkareshwara Temple, a 19th-century temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is built in a unique blend of Islamic and Gothic architectural styles. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely walk through Raja's Seat, a beautiful garden with fountains and a breathtaking view of the sunset.

  2. Day 2: Abbey Falls
    35 minutes (18 km) from Madikeri

    Start your day with a visit to the picturesque Abbey Falls, surrounded by coffee plantations and spice estates. Afternoon, head to the Dubare Elephant Camp and enjoy a boat ride on the Cauvery River. You can also watch elephants being bathed and fed. In the evening, visit the Talacauvery temple, the birthplace of the river Cauvery. The temple is situated on the Brahmagiri hills and offers a splendid view of the surrounding landscapes.

  3. Day 3: Nisargadhama
    30 minutes (25 km) from Madikeri

    On your last day, visit Nisargadhama, a beautiful island formed by the river Cauvery. The island is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, peacocks, and rabbits, and is an excellent place for a picnic. Afternoon, head to the Namdroling Monastery, also known as the Golden Temple, the largest teaching center of Tibetan Buddhism in India. You can watch the monks chanting and spinning prayer wheels. In the evening, visit the Chiklihole Reservoir, a serene and tranquil place for a relaxing evening.

Other local attractions that you can consider visiting are the Iruppu Falls, a magnificent waterfall near the Brahmagiri mountain range, and the Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement, the second-largest Tibetan settlement outside Tibet. If you have time, you can take a day trip to the Nagarhole National Park, which is home to tigers, elephants, and other wildlife.
