Three-Day Motorcycle Itinerary for Munnar and Varkala in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Explore the beauty of Munnar
    Starting from Cochin International Airport
    Estimated Distance: 120 km (3 hours)

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Mattupetty Dam, a perfect place to behold the beauty of Munnar. After that, ride through the scenic routes of the Kundala Dam Lake and the Echo Point. Enjoy the fresh mountain air and the picturesque tea plantations.

    Afternoon: Take a break from your ride and head to Carmelagiri Elephant Park. Enjoy the magnificent sight of elephants in their natural habitat. Take a ride on one of them and spend some quality time with these gentle giants.

    Evening: As the day winds down, make your way to the Tea Museum to learn more about the history of tea production in Munnar and sample some of the finest teas in the region.

  2. Day 2: Beach-Hop in Varkala
    Starting from Munnar
    Estimated Distance: 230 km (5 hours)

    Morning: Make your way to Varkala Beach and start your day with a refreshing dip in the sea. Known for its natural spring, the beach is also perfect for surfing and sunbathing.

    Afternoon: After a relaxing morning, head to the Kappil Lake. The serene backwaters offer a peaceful environment perfect for kayaking and boating.

    Evening: End your day at the Varkala Cliff, a majestic cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea. Watch the sunset as the sky turns a beautiful shade of red and orange.

  3. Day 3: Explore the sights of Varkala
    Starting from Varkala
    Estimated Distance: 80 km (2 hours)

    Morning: Start your day at the Anjengo Fort, a 17th-century fort built by the British East India Company. Take a quick tour and learn about the history of the fort.

    Afternoon: Next, visit the famous Sivagiri Mutt, the final resting place of Sri Narayana Guru, a social reformer and philosopher. The mutt is a holy pilgrimage site for Hindus.

    Evening: End your day with a visit to the Janardanaswamy Temple, a 2000-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Take a stroll around the temple and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Periyar National Park in Thekkady, which is approximately 90 km from Munnar. The park offers a fantastic opportunity to see exotic wildlife, including elephants, tigers, and leopards.

Alternatively, you can take a trip to Kollam, a beautiful coastal town that's just an hour's drive from Varkala. Explore the town's scenic backwaters on a boat ride or visit the Ashtamudi Lake, known for its rich biodiversity.
