Travel from Delhi and Explore Amritsar — Arrival & Evening Visit to the Golden Temple

Morning:

Arrive in Amritsar and ease into the city with a hearty Punjabi breakfast at Bharawan Da Dhaba near the railway station, sampling buttery parathas and masala chai. After breakfast, take a relaxed walk through the tree-lined avenues to Durgiana Temple to admire its mirror-image architecture of the Golden Temple and soak in the peaceful morning rituals before checking into your hotel and freshening up for the afternoon.

Afternoon:

After freshening up, wander through the bustling lanes toward Hall Bazaar to browse traditional phulkari shawls and juttis, stopping for a quick snack of crispy Amritsari kulcha at a popular stall. Continue to Partition Museum for a moving, well-curated glimpse into Punjab’s history, then return via a stroll past the colonial-era Town Hall and some cozy cafés to rest before the evening’s visit to the Golden Temple.

Evening:

As dusk falls, head to the serene waterside for the evening Palki ceremony at Harmandir Sahib, arriving early to join the reverent crowd and watch the gold-plated shrine glow against the lit sarovar; after the ceremony, stroll to Langar Hall to partake in the communal meal and experience the warm hospitality firsthand. Finish the night with a short walk to Rambagh Garden for a relaxed cup of chai at a nearby café while listening to local street musicians, or catch a quaint light-and-sound view of the temple from the bridge overlooking the complex.

Full Day in Amritsar — Jallianwala Bagh, Wagah Border Ceremony & Local Markets

Morning:

Start your morning with a reflective visit to Jallianwala Bagh at opening time to beat the crowds and absorb the powerful memorial gardens and preserved bullet-marked walls, then wander over to the nearby Katra Jaimal Singh Bazaar to sample fresh Amritsari kulcha at a celebrated stall and pick up brassware and sweets. After breakfast, head to Khalsa College to admire its striking Indo-Gothic architecture and stroll the leafy campus before grabbing a chai at a local café on Queens Road to prepare for the afternoon drive to Wagah.

Afternoon:

After a reflective morning, head to Company Bagh (Ram Bagh) to wander the Mughal-era gardens and visit the small museum housed in the summer palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, then stroll across to Guru Ke Mahal area to sample spicy chole and sweet lassi at a beloved local eatery. Continue with a visit to Durgiana Bazaar for vibrant textile and jewelry browsing—seek out embroidered phulkari dupattas and handcrafted juttis—before taking a short tuk-tuk ride to Hall Bazaar’s side lanes for paan or a quick street-side rabri dessert while you rest and prepare for the late-afternoon transfer to the Wagah Border ceremony.

Evening:

After the high-energy Wagah ceremony, wind down with a relaxed dinner at Bade Dil Wala to savor slow-cooked Punjabi specialties like sarson ka saag and makki di roti, followed by decadent rabri from Gian Ji Sweet Shop for dessert.
