3-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Wayanad in January 2024

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    30 minutes (12.5 kilometers) from Kalpetta

    For your morning, visit the Edakkal Caves which are known for their ancient rock art. The hike to the caves takes approximately 45 minutes and is moderately difficult. Afternoon can be spent exploring the beautiful Soochipara Falls which is around 22 km away and takes an hour to reach. In the evening, you can visit the Kuruva Island, known for its calm and serene surroundings.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    30 minutes (17 kilometers) from Sulthan Bathery

    Begin your day by visiting the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India. You can go boating on the dam or trek to the nearby hills for a panoramic view. After lunch, you can visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to tigers, leopards, and elephants. The sanctuary offers a 2-hour safari which can be booked in advance. In the evening, you can take a leisurely stroll in the Pookode Lake which is 22 km away and takes an hour to reach.

  3. Day 3: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 20 minutes (30 kilometers) from Mananthavady

    Begin your last day with a trek to the Chembra Peak, which is the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek takes around 4 hours and is quite challenging, but the view from the top is worth the effort. You can enjoy a picnic lunch at the peak. In the late afternoon, you can visit the Thirunelli Temple which is around 40 km away and takes an hour to reach. The temple is known for its ancient architecture and serene surroundings.

If you have extra time, you can visit the Wayanad Heritage Museum, which showcases the history and culture of the region.
