2-Day Dharmasthala, Kukke Subramanya & Coastal Karnataka Pilgrimage — Mar 27–28, 2026

Day 1 · Fri, Mar 27
Dharmasthala (Manjunatha Swamy Temple)

Evening departure and Dharmasthala darshan

Morning:

Begin with a peaceful walk through the verdant grounds around Dharmasthala Lake, enjoying early sunlight on the water and birdlife before breakfast at the temple guesthouse; follow this with a contemplative visit to the ornate Sri Manjunatha Swamy Temple complex to observe the morning rituals and soak in the sculpted architecture. After darshan, stop by the Ananthapadmanabha Ghat and the small on-site museum to learn about the temple's social service legacy and pick up prasad and locally made handicrafts from the charity-run stalls.

Afternoon:

After arriving and settling in, take a leisurely stroll to the nearby Horanadu-Balehonnur Road viewpoint for panoramic views of the Western Ghats before the light fades, then visit the peaceful Manjusha Trust Herbal Garden to see traditional medicinal plants and learn from the on-site volunteers about local healing practices. Finish the afternoon with a visit to the charitable-run Annadanashala kitchen to observe meal preparations and, if available, partake in a simple community meal, grounding the pilgrimage in Dharmasthala's service ethos.

Evening:

Arrive after sunset and join the serene floating-lamp aarti at Sakthananda Mantapa, then queue for an evening darshan of Sri Manjunatha Swamy where the temple's mellow lit corridors and chanting create a deeply calming atmosphere. After darshan, take a short walk to the lantern-lit Dharmasthala Bazaar to pick up fresh prasadam and handcrafted souvenirs from the charity-run stalls, then retire to the temple guesthouse or nearby lodgings for a peaceful night's rest before tomorrow's early transfer to Kukke Subramanya.

Day 2 · Sat, Mar 28
Kukke Subramanya → Mangalore → Udupi → Sringeri → Shivamogga

Kukke Subramanya visit, Kumaradhara trek, then Mangalore–Udupi–Sringeri transfer back to Shivamogga

Morning:

Begin with an early darshan at Kukke Subramanya Temple, then walk down to the riverbank for the fragrant ritual of offering coconuts at the Kumaradhara River ghat before setting off on the moderate Kumaradhara trek upstream. The trek passes mossy boulders and bamboo groves leading to the sacred Rudraksha and Peepal grove where you can pause for a riverside puja and takeaway prasadam from the small local shrine stalls.

Afternoon:

After the trek, drive toward the coast and stop for a soothing seaside lunch at Someshwara Beach in Ullal, where you can walk the rocky shore and admire the ancient Rudra Hegde Temple set against the surf; try freshly caught grilled fish or a local Mangalorean thali at a beachside eatery. Continue to historic Ullal Darga and then stroll through Mangalore's Kadri Park for a brief restorative pause amid coconut palms before boarding the afternoon coach toward Udupi, timing your arrival to catch the evening rituals at the local Krishna precincts.

Evening:

As dusk falls, pause at St. Aloysius Chapel (Mangalore) to admire its frescoes and catch a moment of quiet reflection before heading to Pilikula Nisargadhama for a gentle stroll among the lake, bamboo groves and a chance to spot local wildlife on the nature trail. Finish the night with a relaxed dinner at a coastal restaurant in Udupi's Temple Town Market, sampling a classic masala dosa or koddelu while watching devotees move between shrines, then board the comfortable evening drive toward Sringeri, arriving in time to rest before the next day's temple visits.
