Ease into Siem Reap with a slow start and head to Angkor National Museum first if you’ve arrived in town by early afternoon. It’s central, air-conditioned, and a smart way to understand the Khmer Empire before you start temple-hopping tomorrow. Expect about 1.5 hours here; entry is usually around USD 12–15, and tuk-tuks from most central hotels or the riverside take about 10–15 minutes. If you’re coming from the airport, go straight to your hotel for a quick drop-off, then come back out once you’ve settled.
From there, continue to Wat Bo for a quieter, more local-feeling pause. The pagoda area is especially pleasant late in the day when the heat softens; give yourself around 45 minutes to wander respectfully, take in the murals and monastery grounds, and enjoy the leafy streets nearby. A tuk-tuk between Angkor National Museum and Wat Bo is only a short hop, and this is one of the nicest parts of town to see on foot if you’re not in a rush.
Next, head toward Old Market (Psar Chas) as the stalls come alive for the evening. This is the best place to browse for scarves, pepper, snacks, and a few easy souvenirs without the full-on chaos of the night market. Plan about an hour here, and don’t be shy about sampling dried fruit or local sweets. For dinner, settle into Khmer Taste Restaurant in central Siem Reap for a gentle first meal: good Cambodian staples, relaxed service, and a realistic spend of about USD 8–15 per person depending on drinks and dishes. It’s an easy tuk-tuk ride from Old Market (Psar Chas), usually under 10 minutes.
If you still have energy after dinner, finish with a short walk through Pub Street. You don’t need to make a night of it unless you want to; even 30–60 minutes is enough to soak up the neon, listen to the music spilling out of bars, and maybe grab a cocktail or ice cream. It’s busiest from about 7:30 PM onward, so if you prefer a calmer vibe, go early and keep it brief. From there, tuk-tuks back to most central hotels are quick and inexpensive, and it’s best to leave before the very late crowd if you want an easy start tomorrow.
