Sikkim on a Shoestring Budget

  1. Day 1: Gangtok
    30 minutes (16 km) from Pakyong Airport

    Morning: Start the day by visiting Enchey Monastery, one of the oldest and most important monasteries in Sikkim. Then, head to the Gangtok Ropeway, which offers a stunning view of the city.
    Afternoon: Visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, which has a vast collection of Tibetan artifacts including rare manuscripts, thangkas, and statues. Afterward, head to the Do-Drul Chorten, which is one of the most important stupas in Sikkim.
    Evening: End your day by visiting MG Marg, which is the main shopping and entertainment hub of Gangtok. Enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee with a beautiful view of the city.

  2. Day 2: Pelling
    4 hours (115 km) from Gangtok

    Morning: Start your day by visiting the Pemayangtse Monastery, which is one of the oldest and most important monasteries in Sikkim. Then, head to the Rabdentse Ruins, which was the second capital of Sikkim and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    Afternoon: Visit the Khecheopalri Lake, which is considered to be one of the holiest lakes in Sikkim. It is believed that birds do not allow any leaves to float on the lake surface. After that, head to the Kanchenjunga Waterfalls, which is one of the highest waterfalls in Sikkim.
    Evening: End your day by watching the sunset from Singshore Bridge, which is the second highest suspension bridge in Asia. The view is breathtaking!

  3. Day 3: Lachung
    6 hours (118 km) from Pelling

    Morning: Start your day by visiting Yumthang Valley, which is also known as the valley of flowers. The valley is covered with wildflowers, yaks, and hot springs.
    Afternoon: Visit the Zero Point, which is the last outpost of civilization. It is a place where you can see the snow-capped mountains up close.
    Evening: End your day by visiting the Lachung Monastery, which is one of the oldest and most important monasteries in Sikkim. You can also buy some souvenirs from the local market before leaving.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can visit the Tsomgo Lake, which is a glacial lake and is considered to be sacred by the locals. You can also visit the Nathula Pass, which is a mountain pass on the Indo-China border.
If you are interested in trekking, you can explore the Goecha La Trek, which is one of the most beautiful treks in Sikkim.
To maximize your fun, try the local cuisine such as momos, thukpa, and gundruk. Also, try the local beer called 'Tongba', which is made from fermented millet.
Lastly, make sure to carry warm clothes as the weather can get chilly in Sikkim even during summers.
