Arrival from Mumbai

Begin at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with check-in and baggage drop completed at least three hours before your Mumbai–Paris flight; the nonstop journey is usually around 9–11 hours, typically departing in the late afternoon or evening. After landing at Charles de Gaulle Airport, allow 45–75 minutes for immigration, bags, and the journey into town. The RER B is the most economical option—roughly €12, with trains taking about 30–40 minutes to central Paris—while a taxi to the Left Bank or central arrondissements has a fixed fare of about €65–€70 and is much easier with luggage. Keep this first day deliberately light, especially if you arrive in the morning after an overnight flight.

Île de la Cité and Sainte-Chapelle

Once settled, head to Île de la Cité for an easy one-hour orientation along the Seine and around the exterior of Notre-Dame. The island is compact and atmospheric, with riverside views, stone quays, and excellent first glimpses of historic Paris; avoid trying to pack in too much after the flight. Continue to Sainte-Chapelle, where the upper chapel’s tall medieval stained-glass windows are the highlight. Reserve a timed entry online in advance—hours commonly run from around 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with seasonal variation—and allow about an hour, including security. Entry is generally around €13–€15; arrive 15–20 minutes early, as the courthouse security checkpoint can be slow.

Early dinner and sunset walk

Take the Métro from Cité toward Saint-Germain-des-Prés, or walk for roughly 20 minutes via the Seine, then have an early dinner at Bouillon Saint-Germain. Expect classic French comfort food—onion soup, steak-frites, eggs mayonnaise, and crème caramel—at approximately €20–€35 per person. It is a popular, lively restaurant, so dining around 5:30–6:30 p.m. helps avoid the longest wait. Afterwards, stroll toward Pont des Arts for a relaxed 45-minute walk along the river as the light softens over the Louvre and the Left Bank. The bridge is best enjoyed as a viewpoint rather than a destination in itself; keep valuables secure in the busy riverside areas, and return to your accommodation early if jet lag catches up.
