Arrival and exploration in Dubai

Arrival from Mumbai and Old Dubai
Fly from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to Dubai International Airport, allowing roughly 3–4 hours in the air, followed by immigration and baggage collection. For a comfortable first day, avoid planning anything immediately after landing: Dubai immigration can take 30–60 minutes, and the drive into Bur Dubai is usually another 20–35 minutes depending on traffic. From Terminal 1 or 3, a taxi is simplest (roughly AED 50–80 to Bur Dubai); the Metro is cheaper, but only practical with light luggage and a Nol card. After checking in or leaving bags at your hotel, head to the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood for about 1½ hours. Come in the afternoon when the lanes are cooler and quieter, and look for the restored wind-tower houses, small galleries, courtyards, and shaded passages around Al Fahidi Street.
Walk toward Dubai Creek and take a traditional abra from Bur Dubai to Deira; the crossing itself is only a few minutes, but allow 30–45 minutes for finding the station, waiting, and enjoying the waterfront. The fare is typically just AED 1 in cash. On the Deira side, browse the Dubai Spice Souk for around 45 minutes, where saffron, cardamom, dried limes, rose petals, dates, and perfume oils make an excellent first taste of the older trading city. Prices are negotiable, so compare a couple of stalls before buying and ask to see the product rather than accepting the first offer.
Dinner and Evening View
Return by abra to Bur Dubai and have dinner at Al Khayma Heritage Restaurant, a good choice for Emirati and regional dishes in a traditional-style setting. Allow roughly AED 100–180 per person and consider sharing a selection of mezze, grilled meats, rice dishes, and a local dessert; reservations are useful in the evening. Finish at the Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park, ideally arriving around sunset if your flight and dinner timing allow, or after dark for the illuminated skyline. The attraction generally operates into the evening, but check the official booking calendar for the exact September hours; tickets are commonly around AED 50 for adults. A taxi from Al Fahidi takes about 10–15 minutes, while the nearest Metro stop, Max, still requires a short taxi ride or walk. Allow 1½ hours, and remember that the Frame can feel busy at sunset—booking a timed entry online is worthwhile.
