Two-Day Itinerary for Somnath and Dwarka in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Somnath

    For the morning, visit the Somnath Temple, an ancient Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM and is a significant pilgrimage site. In the afternoon, head to the Bhalka Tirtha, a revered site where Lord Krishna was hit by an arrow and left his mortal body. The place is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. In the evening, experience the Sound and Light Show at the temple. The show highlights the history of the temple and its significance. The show timings in June are 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

  2. Day 2: Dwarka
    5 hours (238 km) from Somnath Temple

    Start your day by visiting Dwarkadhish Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple is open from 6:30 AM to 1:00 PM, and from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM. In the afternoon, visit the Rukmini Devi Temple, located 2 km away from the Dwarka city. It is dedicated to the wife of Lord Krishna and is open from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. In the evening, take a stroll at Dwarka Beach, located 3 km away from the city. The beach is open 24 hours, and you can witness a beautiful sunset.

Recommendations

While in Somnath, you can also visit the Triveni Sangam, a holy confluence of three rivers- Hiran, Kapila, and Saraswati. It is 5 km away from the Somnath Temple and is open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. You can also plan a side trip to Gir National Park, which is around 55 km from Somnath. It is home to the Asiatic Lion and other wildlife species. In Dwarka, you can visit the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, which is 17 km away from the city. It is believed to be one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. You can also take a trip to Bet Dwarka, located 30 km away from the city. It is an island and is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna lived with his family.
