Day 1 · Sat, Sep 26
New Delhi

Akshardham, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Bangla Sahib, and India Gate

  1. Lakshmi Narayan Temple (Birla Mandir) — Mandir Marg; start with this peaceful, centrally located temple, allowing ~45 minutes from 12:00–12:45.
  2. Gurudwara Bangla Sahib — Connaught Place; visit the shrine and Sarovar, and experience the community kitchen if it’s serving, for ~45 minutes from 1:15–2:00.
  3. Haldiram’s, Connaught Place — Connaught Place; stop for a quick vegetarian meal, budgeting about ₹200–350 per person, from 2:00–2:45.
  4. India Gate — Kartavya Path; stroll around the landmark and lawns for ~45 minutes from 3:15–4:00.
  5. Akshardham — East Delhi; finish at the temple complex, allowing ~2 hours from about 4:45–6:45; leave time for security and its bag-storage rules. The temple visit is free, while exhibitions may cost extra.

Use the Delhi Metro and short auto-rickshaw rides between stops to help keep transport and food near the ₹1,000 budget.

Midday: Lakshmi Narayan Temple and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

Start at Lakshmi Narayan Temple (Birla Mandir) on Mandir Marg, allowing 12:00–12:45 to walk through the peaceful grounds. Then take an auto-rickshaw to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib near Connaught Place for 1:15–2:00; visit the shrine and Sarovar, and, if the community kitchen is serving, take a look in respectfully. At both religious sites, dress modestly and remove your shoes; at the gurudwara, cover your head—scarves are usually available. Keep valuables light and follow the posted rules.

Lunch and the afternoon: Connaught Place to India Gate

Have a quick vegetarian lunch at Haldiram’s, Connaught Place, from 2:00–2:45; budget roughly ₹200–350 per person. From there, use the Metro toward Central Secretariat and continue by auto-rickshaw to India Gate for a 3:15–4:00 stroll around the monument and lawns. Leave a little slack for traffic and the walk between stops; September afternoons can still feel hot, so carry water.

Late afternoon: Akshardham

Head east to Akshardham for around 4:45–6:45. The main temple is free, but exhibitions cost extra, and their entry may close before the complex does—check the day’s timings and ticket cutoff before setting out, especially with this late arrival. Security is strict: phones, cameras, bags, and other restricted items cannot be taken inside, and storage rules apply, so travel light. A Metro ride from Central Secretariat via Mandi House to Akshardham is a budget-friendly option; allow about 35–45 minutes door to door. With Metro fares, lunch, and a short auto ride, ₹1,000 per person should be workable if you skip paid exhibitions and keep extra rides to a minimum.
