Three Days in Udaipur from Indore

Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.

Day 1
Udaipur

Arrive in Udaipur

  1. Indore–Udaipur road journey — via Ratlam, Mandsaur and Neemuch; allow roughly 7–8 hours by car, leaving early and arranging your Udaipur hotel’s parking and check-in in advance.
  2. Jagdish Temple — Old City; take a short look at its intricately carved architecture after checking in, allowing about 30–45 minutes.
  3. Gangaur Ghat — Lake Pichola waterfront; enjoy an easy sunset stroll and views across the lake, around 45 minutes.
  4. Ambrai — Ambamata Ghat; settle in for a lakeside dinner with City Palace views, allowing 1–1.5 hours (approximately ₹800–1,500 per person).

Drive to Udaipur

Leave Indore early for the roughly 7–8-hour drive to Udaipur, via Ratlam, Mandsaur and Neemuch. Allow extra time for fuel and food breaks, and check traffic and road conditions before setting out. Ask your hotel in advance about check-in and parking: in the Old City, lanes can be tight, and you may need to leave the car in a designated lot and walk or take an auto-rickshaw to the door.

After check-in

Once you’ve settled in, head to Jagdish Temple in the Old City for a 30–45-minute look at its detailed stone carvings and lively temple courtyard. Check the day’s visiting hours before you go, as timings can vary; dress modestly and leave shoes outside. Then make your way on foot to Gangaur Ghat on Lake Pichola for an easy waterfront stroll—allow about 45 minutes, and arrive in time for sunset. The Old City lanes are easiest to explore on foot, though an auto can save effort if you’re tired from the drive.

Dinner by the lake

From Gangaur Ghat, continue to Ambrai at Ambamata Ghat for dinner overlooking the water and City Palace. Budget around ₹800–1,500 per person, and reserve ahead if you can—tables with the best views are popular, especially around sunset. The approach is through narrow Old City lanes, so walking from the ghat is often simpler than trying to bring a car close.

Day 2
Udaipur

Explore Udaipur

  1. City Palace Museum — Old City; explore Udaipur’s landmark palace complex and its galleries, allowing 2–3 hours.
  2. Jheel’s Ginger Coffee Bar & Bakery — Lal Ghat; pause for coffee and a light bite in the old-town lanes, around 45 minutes (approximately ₹200–450 per person).
  3. Saheliyon Ki Bari — Panchwati; wander the historic gardens and fountains, allowing about an hour.
  4. Fateh Sagar Lake — Fateh Sagar; finish the day with a relaxed lakeside walk or boat ride, around 1–1.5 hours.

Morning

Start at City Palace Museum when it opens, usually around 9:30am; allow 2–3 hours for the courtyards, galleries and lake-facing terraces. Indian visitor admission is roughly ₹400, with extra charges for some galleries or cameras, so check the current ticket options at the entrance. The Old City lanes can be congested: take an auto-rickshaw to the palace area and expect to walk the final stretch.

Coffee break

Walk through the Old City lanes to Jheel’s Ginger Coffee Bar & Bakery in Lal Ghat for coffee and a light bite. Set aside about 45 minutes; budget around ₹200–450 per person. The narrow lanes are easier on foot than by car, and this is a good moment to slow down before heading across town.

Afternoon and evening

Take an auto or cab to Saheliyon Ki Bari in Panchwati—allow roughly 30–40 minutes for the cross-town ride, depending on traffic. The gardens are generally open into the early evening; plan about an hour among the fountains and shaded paths, with entry typically around ₹30 for Indian visitors. Then continue to Fateh Sagar Lake for a relaxed lakeside walk or, if boats are operating, a boat ride. Allow 1–1.5 hours; boat availability and fares vary, so confirm at the waterfront. Stay for the changing light over the water, then take an auto or cab back to your hotel.

Day 3
Udaipur

Depart from Udaipur

  1. Gulab Bagh — near the city centre; enjoy a gentle morning walk among the gardens, allowing about an hour.
  2. Vintage and Classic Car Collection — Gulab Bagh area; see the collection of historic vehicles, allowing 45–60 minutes.
  3. Natraj Dining Hall & Restaurant — City Station Road; have a sit-down Rajasthani thali before leaving, allowing about an hour (approximately ₹300–600 per person).
  4. Udaipur–Indore return journey — allow roughly 7–8 hours by road via Neemuch, Mandsaur and Ratlam; depart with enough daylight and a planned break, and confirm your vehicle and luggage arrangements before checkout.

Morning

Start early with an easy hour at Gulab Bagh, when the paths are cooler and the garden is at its calmest. It’s generally open from early morning until evening; allow about an hour to wander, and check locally for any entry charge or temporary access changes. The Vintage and Classic Car Collection is nearby, so you can walk over afterward. Allow 45–60 minutes; it usually opens during the day, but confirm the day’s hours and ticket price before setting out.

Lunch and departure

Head to Natraj Dining Hall & Restaurant on City Station Road for a sit-down Rajasthani thali before the drive. Budget roughly ₹300–600 per person and allow about an hour; a rickshaw from the Gulab Bagh area is an easy option, or ask your hotel to arrange a car if you have luggage. Once you’ve eaten, collect your bags and get on the road with enough daylight for the roughly 7–8-hour drive back to Indore via Neemuch, Mandsaur and Ratlam. Confirm your vehicle, luggage and checkout arrangements in advance, and plan a proper break en route rather than trying to cover the distance in one stretch.
