Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.
Start early at Udupi Sri Krishna Matha on Car Street—aim for around 6:30–7:00 a.m. to avoid the heavier darshan queues. Allow 1–1.5 hours for darshan and a look around the distinctive courtyard; modest clothing is appreciated, and timings can vary with temple rituals. Then walk a few minutes to Mitra Samaj for a classic dosa breakfast. Budget roughly ₹100–₹250 per person and about 45 minutes.
Take an auto-rickshaw or cab from the temple area to Malpe Harbour (about 15–20 minutes, depending on traffic). Check at the ticket counter that boats to St. Mary’s Island are running and that sea conditions are safe before buying tickets; services can be weather-dependent, especially around the tail end of the monsoon. Boats commonly operate during daylight hours, but confirm the day’s schedule locally. Keep some flexibility for queues and the crossing, and expect a return boat fare in the several-hundred-rupee range per person. On the island, allow 1–1.5 hours to see the striking columnar basalt formations; wear shoes with grip, carry water and sun protection, and follow crew instructions. If crossings are cancelled or conditions look rough, don’t push the trip.
Return to Hotel Oasis in Udupi for the relaxed hotel time you wanted—this is a good day to leave unscheduled after the boat trip. October can still bring a sudden shower, so keep a light rain layer handy and check the forecast before leaving the harbour.
Leave Hotel Oasis around 6:30–7:00 a.m. for Murudeshwar, taking the coastal NH66 route north; allow about 2–2.5 hours, with extra time for traffic or rain. Once there, park near the temple complex and visit Murudeshwar Temple and Raja Gopura, including the towering gopura and Shiva statue. Set aside 1.5–2 hours. Temple entry is generally free, but check locally for current ritual timings and any charge to use the gopura lift; wear modest clothing and expect wet, slippery surfaces if it has rained.
Take a 30–45-minute stroll at Murudeshwar Beach, right beside the complex. The views are lovely, but October seas can still be rough: keep well back from the water and follow local safety advice rather than swimming. Then have lunch at Naveen Beach Restaurant; budget roughly ₹300–₹700 per person for coastal dishes and allow about an hour. If rain or queues slow the morning, keep the beach stop short so you can head back comfortably.
Aim to leave Murudeshwar between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. for the drive back to Hotel Oasis in Udupi—again allow 2–2.5 hours, and longer if showers or traffic build. October weather can shift quickly along the coast, so carry a light rain layer and keep some buffer in the schedule. Spend the evening resting at the hotel rather than squeezing in another outing.
